CenturyLink completes expansion of New York fiber loop
January 16, 2018
Customers in Greenwich, Conn., provided with access to global fiber connectivity

MONROE, La., Jan. 16, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- As bandwidth requirements and the need for flexible, high-capacity solutions continue to grow, CenturyLink (NYSE: CTL) has completed a new metro fiber loop in Greenwich, Conn. This is the fifth in a series of fiber loop expansions completed along the East Coast in the last 12 months including Stamford, Conn.; Hartford, Conn.; Norwalk, Conn. and White Plains, N.Y. This new expansion provides enterprise customers with access to CenturyLink's global product portfolio, additional business continuity disaster recovery (BCDR) services, as well as fiber path diversity.

"As a company, we understand how important it is for businesses to have safe, secure and reliable network connections that deliver faster solutions to move their businesses forward," said Carl Bonitz, CenturyLink general manager for New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island. "Our expanded network provides businesses in Greenwich with local network infrastructure and support alongside global connectivity, creating a gateway for information exchange across the region and around the world."

Key Facts:

  • These route expansions provide business customers additional network diversity and increased capacity. For example, the metro fiber loop in Greenwich enables CenturyLink to add approximately 20 Class A office buildings to its on-net portfolio.
  • This expansion strengthens geographic fiber routes, points of presence (POP) and carrier diversity. CenturyLink is among the few companies with operations in this area to provide fiber routes going north, south and over Long Island Sound.
  • As part of this expansion, CenturyLink can deliver up to 100 Gbps speeds for business internet and data in addition to CenturyLink's full enterprise product and services portfolio which includes: global networking, cloud, hybrid IT, SD-WAN, security, voice, video, data, hosting, big data analytics, IT consulting, managed services and global data centers.
  • CenturyLink's global fiber-optic network stretches for more than 450,000 route miles with connections in 500 major cities around the globe.
