CenturyLink Bringing its High-Speed Network to Silicon Valley
December 18, 2019
Fiber investment will deliver connectivity and edge compute services to many of the world’s largest and most innovative technology companies

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 18, 2019 –There’s an increasing demand for high-speed internet and data capacity to fuel innovation and new technological breakthroughs in Northern California’s Silicon Valley. To meet the need and prepare for the future, CenturyLink, Inc (NYSE: CTL) is expanding its fiber network infrastructure to technology firms, enterprise businesses, social media companies and start-ups in Foster City, Milpitas, Palo Alto and surrounding areas.

“Now, more than ever before, enterprise businesses have a need for speed and capacity to keep up with increasing business demands,” said Brian Britton, vice president and general manager, CenturyLink. “The network expansion and capital investments coming to Foster City, Palo Alto, Milpitas and San Mateo reconfirm CenturyLink’s commitment to be the trusted partner for California businesses needing this infrastructure to unlock new opportunities presented by transformative technologies.”

Many of the world’s largest technology companies located throughout Silicon Valley seek high-speed data capacity and a better way to access, store and process data closer to where it is being created and consumed. CenturyLink’s edge compute services combined with its diverse, global fiber network, are designed to serve business locations with low-latency networking for developing breakthrough ideas and technological innovations.

“When you look at the work environment and the need to collaborate locally, nationally and globally to streamline meetings and make them very efficient, seamless and frictionless, you need a partner you can trust – that’s why we work with CenturyLink,” said Harry Moseley, global chief information officer, Zoom. “We are a global network, and our operations are expanding all the time. With a partner like CenturyLink, we work 'hand in glove' with a global team we know we can trust to grow our business.”

The network expansion, expected to be completed in 2020, will include several route miles of fiber connecting San Mateo County and Santa Clara County to CenturyLink’s global fiber backbone. The enhanced network will allow customers to blend CenturyLink edge services, storage and networking connectivity into one integrated package to meet the complex business needs of this growing region.

The CenturyLink network in northern California serves more than 1600 on-network buildings with plans to connect approximately 240 additional properties in 2020.
