CenturyLink employees volunteer for “JA in a Day”
April 28, 2016
More than 90 volunteers will teach 1,500 students in 66 Denver-area classrooms

DENVER – CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) is partnering with Junior Achievement-Rocky Mountain, Inc. on April 29 for “JA in a Day,” now in its 14th year in Colorado. More than 90 CenturyLink volunteers will teach in 66 Denver-area elementary school classrooms.

CenturyLink volunteers will teach at two Denver Public Schools: Bill Roberts K-8 School (2100 Akron Way in Stapleton) and College View Elementary School (2675 S. Decatur St., Denver). CenturyLink volunteers will also deliver Junior Achievement programs at Stellar Elementary School in Thornton (3901 E. 124th Ave., Thornton).

Using Junior Achievement’s lesson plans, CenturyLink volunteers will teach students in kindergarten through eighth grade, preparing more than 1,500 students to succeed in a global economy. The lesson plans focus on three areas: entrepreneurship, financial literacy and work readiness.

“Every year, CenturyLink employees look forward to volunteering in classrooms in the Denver area. This is a special opportunity that allows our employees to work with and teach the next generation of technology and business leaders within our community,” said Kathy Lutito, CenturyLink’s senior vice president of finance/president of asset management.

The Junior Achievement curriculum is catered to specific grade levels. For example, kindergarteners learn about personal budgeting through hands-on classroom activities that focus on helping, working, earning and saving, while eighth graders may tackle key aspects of the global economy, what makes world trade work and how trade affects students’ lives.

Junior Achievement’s programs are independently tested and proven to make a significant impact. The programs align with the State of Colorado’s standards in social studies and personal financial literacy, in addition to several standards in mathematics and English language arts.“CenturyLink continues to be one of our strongest partners in the community, and we are very grateful for their continued support, year after year,” said Robin Wise, president and CEO of Junior Achievement-Rocky Mountain, Inc. “Junior Achievement is able to make a significant impact on the lives of Colorado’s young people thanks to the dedication and support of organizations like CenturyLink, and we applaud their efforts to volunteer in the community.”
