Lumen Lede
At one time, sustainability was about saving the planet. Today it encompasses so much more – environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. Lumen’s increased commitment to ESG is being recognized on a national level. This is evidenced by Newsweek’s recent recognition of CenturyLink, one of Lumen’s well-established and trusted brands, as one of America's Best Customer Service companies for 2022 in the category of Online Services and Digital Products, Internet Service Providers (ISP). Equally exciting and as a testament to our work culture, Lumen Technologies has also been named to Forbes’ list of World's Best Employers 2021, America’s Best Employers for Diversity, America's Best Employers By State 2021, America's Best Employers For Women 2021, Disability: IN’s 2021 Best Places to Work for Disability Inclusion, and WayUp’s No. 1 Internship Program in the United States for 2021. Newsweek recognizes Lumen Technologies as one of ‘America’s Most Responsible Companies’
Lumen Technologies has been added to Newsweek’s list of America's Most Responsible Companies 2022. Newsweek partnered with global research and data firm Statista for the third year in a row to rank 500 of the largest U.S. public corporations that stepped up with their environmental and social responsibilities.
America’s Most Responsible Companies were selected based on publicly available key performance indicators derived from CSR Reports, Sustainability Reports, and Corporate Citizenship Reports, as well as an independent survey. The KPIs focused on company performance in the environmental, social, and corporate governance areas, while the independent survey asked U.S. citizens about their perception of company activities related to corporate social responsibility. Based on the survey results, Lumen was the only Louisiana-headquartered company on the list and came in at number 308 overall. See the full list here.

On Jan. 11, the non-profit JUST Capital announced with its media partner CNBC that Lumen Technologies has been named to the 2022 Rankings of America's Most JUST Companies. Of the 954 public companies analyzed, Lumen ranked 288 overall.
Since 2015, JUST Capital has surveyed more than 150,000 Americans on what they believe U.S. companies should prioritize most when it comes to just business behavior and analyzed how the country’s largest corporations measure up. During the uncertainty of the pandemic, a tight labor market, and a rapidly evolving ESG landscape, Americans polled expect companies to earn the public’s trust and hold themselves accountable to their many stakeholder commitments, from cultivating a diverse, inclusive workplace and protecting customer privacy to supporting sustainable products and giving back to local communities. Detailed breakdowns for each stakeholder metric can be explored here. Links to CNBC’s multimedia coverage are at cnbc.com/just100.
Lumen embraces environmental transparency through the Carbon Disclosure Project
Lumen’s purpose to further human progress through technology has never been more critical than as we have seen during this pandemic. To enable its customers to reach their sustainability goals, Lumen has been continuing to focus on delivering innovative solutions based on 4th Industrial Revolution technologies.
In 2021, Lumen continued its commitment to environmental transparency by disclosing its global Green House Gas (GHG) emissions footprint and climate mitigation initiatives through the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) a global non-profit that runs the world’s leading environmental disclosure platform. The Annual CDP Climate Change Score Report allows companies to understand their score and indicates which categories require attention to reach higher scoring levels. This enables companies to progress toward environmental stewardship through benchmarking and comparison with peers to continuously improve their climate change mitigation performance.
For the second year in a row, Lumen received an A- in the CDP Climate Change 2021 Score Report, which is higher than the North America regional average of C, and higher than the Media, Telecommunications & Data Center Services sector average of B. This places Lumen in the “Leadership” level amongst the top 28% of companies in “media, telecommunications, and data center services,” and the top 6% of responding companies overall.
Looking to the future, Lumen Technologies is mindful that social responsibility and environmental stewardship are inherent in the company’s purpose and mission.
