CenturyLink wins communications contract at Peterson Air Force Base

Company to support NORAD Tracks Santa program

WASHINGTON, Dec. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) recently won a contract to provide communications services to Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colo. The contract includes support for the NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) Tracks Santa program, including enabling the program's phone hotline.

The contract, which also includes Ethernet circuits and private line services, is valued at approximately $275,000 the first year, with four one-year options, for a total contract value of $1.5 million

In addition to the contracted communications services, CenturyLink is also providing circuits and equipment as a team partner to the NORAD Tracks Santa program.

"CenturyLink is honored to provide Peterson AFB with communications services that help NORAD track all flying objects that enter North American air space every day, including tracking Santa Claus on Christmas Eve," said David Young, CenturyLink regional vice president, strategic government.

The NORAD Tracks Santa program aims to spread good will and cheer during the holiday season while informing the public of the mission of NORAD, which tracks everything that flies in and around North America in defense of the United States and Canada 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. 

Millions of people around the world track Santa with NORAD via the website, social media, mobile apps and calls to the operations center.

The NORAD Tracks Santa program is made possible through the generosity of volunteers as well as the government and corporate partners that help bring it to the world for free.

  • The website, www.noradsanta.org, and mobile apps offer family-friendly games, videos and information about Santa and NORAD beginning Dec. 1.
  • Starting at 6 a.m. Eastern/4 a.m. Mountain on Dec. 24, the NORAD Tracks Santa operations center goes live and families can call the hotline toll-free at 1-877-Hi-NORAD (1-877-446-6723) to inquire about Santa's location.
