Categories:

BOGOTA, Colombia, Feb. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The global telecommunications and IT provider CenturyLink, Inc. (NYSE: CTL) today announced the launch of its new fiber optic route connecting Colombia and Ecuador, between the cities of Cali and Quito.

This new infrastructure expansion and network coverage provides enterprise customers with dedicated internet services in addition to the comprehensive portfolio of CenturyLink's global products, as well as diversity of fiber routes for service contingencies.

"As technology needs increase for companies in Latin America, CenturyLink is committed to preparing our network for the future in order to meet the current and future demands of our customers," comments Hector Alonso, Regional Latin America President at CenturyLink. "As a company, we understand how important it is for businesses to have a secure and reliable network that delivers faster connections to help move their businesses forward. Our expanded network offers companies in the region local network infrastructure and support together with global connectivity, creating a gateway for the exchange of information in the region and around the world."

Key Facts:

  • The new fiber optic route is 585 kilometers and connects Colombia and Ecuador.
  • The route allows the enablement of transport and IP services in intermediate cities of Colombia (Popayan, Ipiales, Pasto) and Ecuador (Tulcan, Ibarra).
  • This network has an installed capacity of 400 gigabits in the transmission layer and is connected, in turn, to the ring of alliance in Colombia and the submarine system SAC (South American Crossing), thus enabling an international on-net outlet for Ecuador.
  • With this network's entry into operation, enterprises, internet service providers, telecommunications companies and local governments will have access to upscale services, plus regional or global reach with the advantage of having them within a single provider with route diversity.
  • CenturyLink has a network infrastructure of more than 26,000 kilometers throughout Latin America.
  • CenturyLink's global fiber optic network extends over 720,000 kilometers, with customers in more than 60 countries and 500 markets.
  • CenturyLink's global IP backbone capability exceeds 43 terabits per second.
  • CenturyLink has more than 100,000 on-net buildings around the world.
