Lumen Partners with Fairygodboss to Empower Women for Career Success
March 1, 2022

Lumen is excited to announce its partnership with Fairygodboss throughout Women’s History Month to empower women to achieve their dreams for career success. Fairygodboss is the largest career community for women and provides free resources like job listings, virtual recruiting events, community advice and hard-to-find information about how companies treat women.

Lumen’s Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer India Sylvester said, “We are very excited about our partnership with Fairygodboss. From a human resources perspective, Fairygodboss is a great resource that is empowering millions of women to achieve career success by getting a promotion or securing a new job. The theme for International Women’s Day this year is ‘Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.’ At Lumen, we are working together to help everyone have a seat at the table and feel heard.”

"The mission of Fairygodboss is to empower women in the workplace through transparency. That's why we're so excited to have a partnership with Lumen, a company that is genuinely investing in progress towards diversity and equity of all kinds. Lumen's unifying principles make it a unique and thoughtful employer that will help lead the way toward progress and inclusion,” said Fairygodboss Co-founder and President Romy Newman.

In the latest episode of Fairygodboss Radio, India Sylvester shares with Fairygodboss Co-founder and President Romy Newman how a surprising college elective course helped launch her 15-year career in human resources and how she grew her career by accepting new challenges, ignoring bad advice and taking care of herself.

When it comes to career success, India advises women not to be afraid to do the following:

  • Be your authentic self
  • Speak with conviction
  • Stand up for what you believe is right

In her Women’s History Month blog, India also encourages women to speak up and passionately state their position on a topic. “During my early career days, I was often advised to be polite and watch my tone because when women speak up or passionately state their position on a topic this isn’t very lady-like. I’m not interested in hearing these words anymore. When I consider the women who have made their mark on history, I cringe to think about how the outcomes may have been different had they watched their tone.”

Throughout Women’s History Month, Fairygodboss will highlight How Lumen is furthering human progress with technology and fostering Inclusion and why women love working for Lumen with spotlights on Lumen’s President of Mass Markets Maxine Moreau, President of Global Customer Success Laurinda Pang, and VP of Human Resources Lindy Puttkammer.

On March 30, from 12pm-1pm EST, Lumen and Fairygodboss will host a webinar panel discussion with women leaders who are breaking barriers in the tech industry to make amazing innovations happen.

Lumen Leaders who will participate as panelists are:

  • Beth Ard – VP Customer Experience and Journey, Member of Women Empowered
