Lumen Lede
These are words that top-tier publications, companies and non-profits are using to recognize Lumen’s work to provide a welcoming and inclusive workplace for all people. In the first quarter of 2022 alone, Lumen programs won accolades from eight respected advocates for sustainability and equal opportunity.
“We’re very honored to receive these awards, and especially proud that several of them are based on direct input from Lumen people,” commented India Sylvester, Lumen’s Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer. “Our goal is to be a high performing, engaged, innovative workforce driving stellar business results in an inclusive culture where everyone can be their authentic selves. To the people of Lumen, it’s just the right way to work. Building our inclusive, engaged culture is at the heart of what Lumen is striving for as a company and a critical part of our overall business strategy.”
One of the Most Responsible
As a testament to our work culture, Newsweek named Lumen Technologies in January to its list of America's Most Responsible Companies 2022 that stepped up with their environmental and social responsibilities. Based on the survey results, Lumen was the only Louisiana-headquartered company honored and came in at number 308 overall on the list of the 500 largest U.S. public corporations.
One of the Most Just
The non-profit JUST Capital and its media partner CNBC named Lumen Technologies to its 2022 Rankings of America's Most JUST Companies. More than 150,000 Americans were surveyed on what they believe U.S. companies should prioritize most when it comes to just business behavior. They looked at companies that cultivated a diverse inclusive workplace, protected customer privacy, supported sustainable products, and gave back to local communities. Of the 954 public companies analyzed, Lumen Technologies ranked 288 overall.
Environmentally Transparent
Lumen embraces environmental transparency through the Carbon Disclosure Project. The company’s purpose to further human progress through technology has never been more critical than as we have seen during this pandemic. For the second year in a row, Lumen received an A- in the CDP Climate Change 2021 Score Report, which is higher than the North America regional average of C, and higher than the Media, Telecommunications & Data Center Services sector average of B. This now places Lumen in the “Leadership” level amongst the top 28% of companies in “media, telecommunications, and data center services,” and the top 6% of responding companies overall.
A Leader in Global Network Services
Lumen was named a Leader in the February 2022 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Network Services, Global. This is the second consecutive year Lumen has been positioned in the Leader's quadrant. The report evaluated network service providers on their Ability to Execute and their Completeness of Vision.
“Offering a platform isn't just about the individual services we offer – it's also about what our customers' success looks like. We tailor-made our platform to help businesses succeed in creating next-gen digital experiences in the 4th Industrial Revolution. We're really proud of that,” said Shaun Andrews, Lumen chief marketing officer.
A Leader in Technology Innovation
In March, Lumen was recognized for its unwavering commitment to drive innovation and value for our diverse customers with the prestigious 2022 US CIO 100 Award. Now in its 35th year, honorees are being recognized for helping create a more advanced, inclusive environment for all tech professionals.
One of the Best for LGBTQ+ Equality
For the fourth consecutive year, Lumen Technologies (NYSE: LUMN) earned a score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation's annual Corporate Equality Index (CEI). This places Lumen firmly on the list as one of the best places to work for LGBTQ+ equality. Keri Kidder, an administrative assistant and global chair of Lumen's Pride Employee Resource Group, says the 100 CEI score is one of the reasons she is proud to work for the company.
"As the Global Chair of the Lumen Pride ERG, seeing our 100% score on the CEI makes me proud. I am honored to work for a company that sees diversity and inclusion as an important part of the core values,” said Kidder.
Top 50 for Minority Engineers
Ranked #20 this year, Lumen has been named to Minority Engineer Magazine's Top 50 Employers List for the seventh consecutive year. Magazine readers are asked every year to name the employers, both in the private and public sectors, for whom they would most like to work or who they believe would provide a positive working environment for members of minority groups.
Top 50 in Careers & the disABLED
Lumen also ranks #12 out of all the companies in the U.S. in this year’s 31st Annual Top 50 Employers in CAREERS & the disABLED magazine. This is Lumen’s fifth consecutive year of making the top 50 list.
Tonya Baumgartl is featured in the Winter 2021/2022 edition of Careers & the disABLED magazine. Tonya serves on Lumen’s FRIENDS global employee resource group board and is a Customer Success Advocate. Tonya has adult ADD and is legally blind in her right eye. She applauds the benefits Lumen provides to assist employees with many different disabilities.
Lumen’s Workplace and Possibilities Program partners with disability insurance and consultants to arrange adaptive technologies to remove barriers for employees with disabilities.
“On top of all these great programs is remarkable management that’s understanding and empathetic to the needs of those with disabilities,” shares Baumgartl. “Lumen is strong in promoting a work life balance and provides flexibility and time off for a doctor appointment, and to take care of a family member and/or personal time due to a disability.”
“When it comes to further strengthening our company through our diversity, inclusion and belonging efforts, we will never be satisfied,” Sylvester commented. “We will always seek more ways to bring all people, perspectives and viewpoints to the Lumen table, and we will all be enriched as a result.”
