Connecting diverse communities to #digitalopportunities
July 6, 2023

Lumen is committed to playing an active role in bridging the digital divide, equipping its leaders to lead inclusively, and growing a culture that fosters and celebrates diversity.

Lumen Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer India Sylvester recently joined USTelecom Association EVP and Chief Strategy Officer Allison Remsen as a guest on USTelecom Download, sharing how Lumen Technologies is connecting and supporting diverse communities.

“Lumen has made significant investments to bring high-speed broadband to every corner of our service territory where it is economically feasible,” said Sylvester “Many barriers that remain, and are often beyond a provider’s control, are digital literacy issues and hard to reach, rural locations. We’re always looking at ways to expand or enhance our broadband services, which includes working closely with federal, state, and local government agencies on creative public-private partnerships.”

Lumen participates in the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which provides monthly internet to qualifying households.

Lumen also has been helping promote digital inclusion through partnerships with PCs for People, providing refurbished computers to low-income individuals, and The imagineXerience, a STEM-based outreach program for students in underserved communities.

Sylvester highlighted Lumen’s commitment to being a workplace where diverse and talented people can thrive and grow their careers. “Our goal is to create the conditions for a supportive and productive work environment that allows our employees to effectively contribute their talents to our Lumen strategy. At a high level, we are fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging with a focus on meeting our employees’ needs.”

Lumen has been recognized by Forbes as one of America's Best Employers for Diversity 2022 and World's Top Female Friendly Companies 2022.
