With approximately 450,000 route fiber miles and serving customers in more than 60 countries, we deliver the fastest, most secure platform for applications and data to help businesses, government and communities deliver amazing experiences.
Our solutions enable technology to help decarbonize the economy such as:
- Smart technology used by electrical grids to reduce fossil fuel use
- Reducing travel through more efficient road transportation and travel substitution (e.g., virtual meetings and collaboration tools)
- Smarter building design, construction, and operation to conserve energy
Lumen is also taking steps to reduce our own carbon emissions and improve our environmental sustainability. The foundation of our environmental sustainability efforts is climate change mitigation. Lumen discloses its climate mitigation activities annually through the CDP Climate Change Questionnaire.
Lumen is among the top 6% of all responding companies and the top 28% of companies in the “media, telecommunications, and data center services” activity group. In 2020 and 2021, CDP ranked Lumen in the Leadership category with a score of A- for our climate change disclosures.
For the past twenty years, the Annual CDP Climate Change Score Report has allowed companies to understand their score and indicate which categories require attention to reach higher scoring levels. This enables companies to progress towards environmental stewardship through benchmarking and comparison with peers, to continuously improve their climate governance.
In 2021, Lumen completed qualitative physical climate scenario analysis following the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures. This analysis focused on seven critical assets and considered the following physical climate hazards: increasing temperature, rising sea levels, and changes in precipitation, as well as inland flooding, coastal flooding, tropical cyclones, drought, wildfires, and extreme temperatures.
Our commitment to sustainability is further evidenced when the non-profit JUST Capital recently announced with its media partner CNBC that Lumen Technologies has been named to the 2022 Rankings of America's Most JUST Companies and Newsweek’s list of America's Most Responsible Companies 2022. Newsweek partnered with global research and data firm Statista to rank 500 of the largest public corporations that stepped up with their environmental and social responsibilities. Lumen was the only Louisiana HQ company on the list and came in at number 309 overall.
